Originally selling books door-to-door in the summer as a college student, Alan Vinson developed a love for working with people. In 2001, his knack for customer service merged with his passion for clothing. The result was JT Vinson Clothiers.

First opening a Southside office and then one in Downtown Jacksonville, JT Vinson now calls Jax Beach home as a part of the Coste Verde shops on 3rd Street South. Swing by and you’re likely to see men in their mid-20’s searching for wedding or business attire -- that is, when the shop isn’t serving the likes of professional athletes and higher profile media figures such as Tim Tebow, D.J. Chark, and Billy Donovan.

The suit purchasing process is specifically designed to make it easy for people who are too busy to shop. Customers will first come in for a consultation that includes a brief breakdown of what they’re looking for, what they do for a living, etc. Ample measurements are taken to ensure the suit will fit well and allow for enough rotation. Alan likened it to a financial plan when describing the goal of an optimal wardrobe plan for each of his customers. Recent years have seen the business expand. “We used to be a come-to-you service,” Alan mentioned. “Now more people are hearing about us and are coming to us.” About 70 % of the time customers come into the store, as Vinson has worked hard to create a high-level and unique experience at his location. He says most men don't like to shop for clothes, but love the experience JT Vinson offers.

I asked Alan what makes his business important, and he responded that when customers come to JT Vinson Clothiers, they’re getting exactly what they want. Everything is very on-purpose and deliberate. “We fit people very well,” Vinson said. In more than just a physical sense.
