Marsalis made his recording debut in 1982 and has since recorded over 110 jazz and classical albums, four alternative records, and released five DVDs. Marsalis is the winner of nine GRAMMY Awards, and his jazz oratorio Blood on the Fields was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He remains the only musician to win a GRAMMY Award in two categories—jazz and classical— during the same year (1983, 1984).Jazz at Lincoln Center is led by Chairman Clarence Otis, Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, and Executive Director Greg Scholl. She didn't turn to jazz until college at SUNY Purchase, where she won the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, quickly earning recognition as a masterful interpreter of standards in the tradition of Vaughan, Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln and Carmen McRae.Her 2022 Verve debut, Linger Awhile, won Grammys for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best New Artist. A deluxe edition followed, along with the EP A Joyful Holiday, which won two more Grammys in 2025. Her latest album, Portrait, co-produced with Brian Lynch, won a 2025 NAACP Image Award and the 2026 Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album, and highlights her growing skill as a lyricist, setting her own words to music by Mingus, Sun Ra and her late mentor Barry Harris.
