Castillo Craft Bar + Kitchen

I found a new “must try” spot for you in historic downtown St. Augustine called Castillo Craft + Kitchen. I already know what some of you are thinking…”that’s too far!” I’m here to tell you, it’s worth the drive!
Castillo is located inside the Renaissance St. Augustine hotel and offers complimentary valet for diners.

I went with several of my food blogger friends for a 9 course menu tasting. Let me tell you, I’ve been lucky enough to have been to many eating events and multi-course dinners and I consider myself to be really good about self-control and managing my “stomach space.” BUT… Chef Michel Richardson won- every course was so good I couldn’t stop. I’ve never wished for a bigger stomach capacity than that night!

Chef Michel, most recently from M Brothers took over as Chef de Cuisine about 8 months ago and revamped the entire menu. He has created an inspired menu that changes seasonally and sources the meats and veggies from local sustainable farms to bring the diner a farm to fork experience.  They even grow their own herbs and micro greens in house.

We started with the Flash Fried Crispy Calamari and Sweet Soy Glazed Crispy Brussels Sprouts. This was when I knew that I was in trouble.  We all enjoyed both apps, but don’t miss out on those Brussels!

Next came the Seasonal Stone Fruit Salad, Salmon Tartare and Roasted Corn and Lobster Miso Chowder. As of this writing, the chowder is not on the menu but I hear it may become a regular menu item. If they have it, GET IT!! It was most of the foodies favorite bite of the night.

For the entrees we tasted the Fire Fried Chicken and Watermelon and the Sous Vide Fresh Cut New York Strip with roasted garlic truffle pomme purée. Again, both delicious! If you are a garlic and truffle fan like me, the pomme purée was heavenly.

Just when I thought I might burst, dessert was brought out. Luckily, I have a small reserve stomach for dessert!
The desserts are shareable and decadent. Warm Brownie Stack and Chocolate Chip Lava Cake, both served with vanilla ice cream were the perfect ending to our night.

Listen, I can go on and on about all the wonderful flavors of each dish, but the fact is… you have to go try it for yourself!
