2014 was a big year for Daryl Hall and John Oates, as they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Starting out as two devoted disciples of earlier soul greats, Daryl Hall & John Oates are soul survivors in their own right. They have become such musical influences on some of today’s popular artists that the September 2006 cover of Spin Magazine’s headline read: “Why Hall and Oates are the New Velvet Underground.” Their artistic fan base includes Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Brandon Flowers of The Killers, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie and MTV’s newest hipsters Gym Class Heroes who dubbed their tour “Daryl Hall for President Tour 2007.” One of the most sampled artists today, their impact can be heard everywhere from boy band harmonies, to neo-soul to rap-rock fusion. <...   [Read More]

ROLLICKING AMERICANA ACT THE BLACK LILLIES TO PERFORM AT THE COLONIAL QUARTER ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2014

St. Augustine, FL (September 9, 2014) – The St. Johns Cultural Events Division, St. Johns Cultural Council and Flying Saucer proudly present The Black Lillies at the Colonial Quarter in downtown St. Augustine on Friday, November 7. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, September 12 at 10 a.m.

“With one foot planted firmly in Appalachian music culture and the other always expanding and evolving, The Black Lillies have created a unique sound embraced by fans old and young,” - Vanity Fair.

The Black Lillies are fronted by the best-matched male-female vocal duo since Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris,” says News OK. It sounds like an overstatement – unless you’ve heard The Black Lillies. Then it sounds like a reasonable claim. The Black Lilllies are a band for the ages, not the slick, soulless music that seems to get most of the radio airplay, but rich, rootsy tunes performed with as much heart as technical virtuosity. This commitment to authenticity has earned them accolades from outlets as diverse as Rolling Stone Magazine, who calls them one of “the most buzzworthy new acts in country and Americana,” and the Wall Street Journal, who praised their “rootsy flair... a winsome hybrid ...   [Read More]

Lonestar at the Jacksonville Landing Recap

As summer is starting to come to a close, the people of Jacksonville got a free concert from 99.9 Gator Country at the Landing. This time, we got to see one of the legendary bands in country music, Lonestar. This band has been together for 30 years and has released a new album called “Life As We Know It”. But before they came on, Natalie Nicole Green and the Steve Flowers Band took the stage to open up for Lonestar. They did a lot of cover songs and some original songs. Both of them made a good impression on the audience.

Another thing to point out was the return of the lead singer, Richie McDonald. He is the mainstay of Lonestar and with his return in 2012, brought Lonestar back and better than ever. Some people may not know that Lonestar came here in 2007 but with a different lead singer. I actually listened to him perform one of the songs Richie originally performed, and it was not the same. But the band is back with the lineup of Richie McDonald, Michael Britt, Keech Rainwater, and Dean Sams.

After the openers performed, Lonestar took the stage and opened up with their classic hit “No News” and continued on with “My Front Porch Looking In”. This band has a lot of good songs,...   [Read More]

O.A.R. RETURNS TO PERFORM AT ST. AUGUSTINE AMPHITHEATRE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2014

St. Augustine, FL (August 4, 2014) – Roots-and-reggae jam band, O.A.R., will return this fall to perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre along with special guest, Andy Grammer. The show will take place on Friday, November 14 and tickets will go on sale to the public this Friday, August 8 at 10AM.

Classic American author Thomas Wolfe famously stated “you can’t go home again,” but don’t tell that to the members of O.A.R. on their eighth studio album, THE ROCKVILLE LP, the shape-shifting rock band found that returning home triggered a journey of creative renewal and inspiration.

“This isn’t about us going back to our musical roots per se,” says lead singer Marc Roberge, who founded O.A.R. in 1996 with his Rockville, Md. high school classmates, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, and bassist Benj Gershman (saxophonist Jerry DePizzo joined while the group was at Ohio State University). “It’s about us getting inspired by the place we came from. We’d drive the same roads, visit the old haunts, and spend time with our people. Rockville was the catalyst then, and it’s the catalyst now.”

For the first time in a while, the band found that visiting the...   [Read More]
