March 9th Is Deadline For Jaguar Season Ticket Renewal

March 9th is the deadline for Jaguar season ticket renewals. The Jaguars tweeted that this upcoming deadline was due to the high demand for season tickets.

This will be the first season since 2005 that fans will not see any tarps covering seats. The stadium removed the tarps for the Jaguars first home playoff game in 18 years in January, when the team sold out the stadium with an announced attendance of 69,442. Those tarps had been in place for over 10 years.

EverBank Field will also be known as TIAA Bank Field later this year. TIAA Bank Field will be the official name of its home stadium, replacing EverBank Field. The name change comes after the sale of EverBank to TIAA in June and the new parent company will be renaming all EverBank locations as TIAA Bank.

The name change must be officially approved by the city of Jacksonville and the Jaguars before they can tear down the signage on the front of the building and replace it with the new name.

Jacksonville-based EverBank acquired the naming rights to the stadium in 2010, four years after the naming rights deal with Alltel lapsed. (The stadium was known as Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in the interim.) In 2014, the company extended its naming rights deal through 20...   [Read More]

Seafood Island Bar & Grille Is Now Open In San Marco

The former Pizza Palace, a culinary staple on the Square for 27 years, is now Seafood Island Bar & Grille. This third outlet of owner Charley Akel’s Seafood Express & More brand, which has locations on the Southside and Northside, opened Dec. 15 with a decidedly more island flavor and paint job. You’ll also find a variety of fish and shellfish brought in every three days — most available fried, grilled, blackened or broiled — along with combination platters, soups, sandwiches, pastas and steak and chicken plates. Entrees come in lunch, dinner and “lite” portions, the last resembling a lunch-sized dinner, as well as daily lunch specials. Gluten-free patrons can ask for their fish to be grilled on a separate cooking surface.

Currently Seafood Island is a beer-and-wine establishment in the process of obtaining a full liquor license. Happy hour, 4-7 p.m. daily, features dollar-off deals on beer (five on draft and 10 bottles) and house wi...   [Read More]

St. Augustine, FL (January 20, 2014) –Darius Rucker returns to perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre with Eli Young Band and Corey Smith on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Darius Rucker previously performed at the Amphitheatre on October 29, 2010.

Rucker, who first attained multi-platinum status as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Hootie & the Blowfish, wrote ten of the twelve tracks on True Believers - ranging from his current single, the feel-good, sing-along, "Radio" to the sophisticated narrative of "Shine." He expresses special pride in the raw and realistic sentiments of songs like "Miss You" and "I Will Love You Still," a duet with young powerhouse vocalist Mallary Hope.

The two songs Rucker didn't have a hand in writing are both major events of their own. "Love Without You" features Sheryl Crow, with whom Rucker had wanted to record ever since they sang together at a VH1 function almost twenty years ago. For his version of the popular Old Crow Medicine Show song "Wagon Wheel," initially based on a sketch by Bob Dylan, Rucker, never expecting them to say yes, invited his tour partners and Capitol Records labelmates Lady Antebellum into the studio. When they came...   [Read More]

New Lounge - The Volstead Opens Downtown

The Volstead joins Downtown Jacksonville right in time for 2014. Indulge in decadent bourbon, whiskey, and scotch on the top shelf, and try their classic cocktails made with a unique twist. Great drinks start with great ingredients, and aren’t we glad that we aren’t faced with the challenges that Prohibition brought to this nation.

The act was later repealed in 1933, but the era would forever leave its mark on history. Some of histories most colorful personalities were players in bootlegging operations, and to this day bars still carry on the tradition.

Jacksonville Florida pre-prohibition was a beautiful, bustling city where people came to achieve their dreams; designed to be the original site of Hollywood where the stars and starlets of the era came to spend their time.

As the decade progressed the nation fell on hard times, Congressman Andrew Volstead chalked up the bill to eradicate the production and sale of liquor throughout the United States. As liquor became more scarece, people became craftier in finding ways to get hooch into the country. Due to the prime waterfront ...   [Read More]
