The Jacksonville Beach Pier Reopened Today
After a year and a half of repairs, 625 feet of the Jacksonville Beach Pier is back open. The remainder is still under redesign and is. Hurricane Matthew destroyed 350ft. in 2016. New railings have been replaced along with the walkways.
The beach pier had closed indefinitely due to damage sustained during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 and additional damage from Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
Time estimates for rebuilding the pier have consistently been between 18 months and two years from hurricane to completion. That placed the estimated completion date between May 2018 and October 2018.
The Jacksonville Beach Pier was designed to withstand 130 MPH winds or a Category 3 hurricane. Part of the initial delay in rebuilding the pier was determining what went wrong. The City of Jacksonville will not release the full study, but it appears it was an error in the construction.
It is only $3 for fisherman because not all of the pier is back open and only $1 to access. There is not a saltwater license required to fish on the pier.... [Read More]

Jaguars Get High Marks on Draft Picks
JACKSONVILLE – The grades are pretty much done.
And for the most part, the Jaguars’ draft has received an overwhelmingly positive response from those who grade such things.
Mel Kiper, Jr., of ESPN. Pete Prisco of CBS Sports
Rob Rang of CBSSports.com and NFLDraftScout.com. Bryan Fischer of NFL.com.
Evan Silva of Rotoworld. Sports Illustrated. Peter Schrager of Fox Sports.
All weighed in on the 2014 NFL Draft in recent days, and as it turned out, the Jaguars’ draft carried quite a bit of weight with all of the aforementioned analysts, who one by one ranked the Jaguars’ effort over the three-day draft among the best in the league.
Kiper, one of the most highly-recognized draft analysts, liked the Jaguars adding wide receiversMarqise Lee and Allen Robinson in Round 2, and gave the Jaguars an “A.” Chris Burke and Doug Farrar of SI.com called getting Lee and Robinson in Round 2 “remarkable,” and gave the Jaguars’ overall draft an “A-.”
While some analysts were disagreed over the selection of quarterback Blake Bortles of Central Florida at No. 3 overall, Prisco loved the selection and... [Read More]
FSU QB Jameis Winston cited for shoplifting lobster and crawfish from Publix
Heisman trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston was cited for shoplifting $32.72 worth of seafood at a Publix grocery store in Tallahassee, Fla., on Tuesday night, Leon County Director of Law Enforcement Michael Wood said in a news conference Wednesday.
He left with crab legs and crawfish. Before leaving the Publix, he put back the butter he had in his cart but left with the other items. We aren't sure what he was thinking but he is back in the spotlight with now indisputable video evidence.
Wood said Winston left the supermarket at 800 Ocala Road without paying for crab legs and crawfish shortly before 9 p.m., and when police arrived at his residence after midnight Winston said he "forgot" to pay upon being interviewed.
"He was very cooperative and he seemed fairly honest in that he did not pay for the item," Wood said.... [Read More]

SHARKS CALM STORM ON FRIDAY NIGHT 60-41
JACKSONVILLE – Taking advantage of an opportunistic defense that forced five turnovers, the Jacksonville Sharks improved to 2-0 at home on Friday night, beating the Tampa Bay Storm by a 60-41 count on Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Jacksonville (2-2) jumped out to an early 13-0 lead thanks to the first of those turnovers. After R.J. Archer opened the game with a one-yard touchdown run. Tampa Bay (3-2) quarterback Randy Hippeard lost control of the snap on the Storm’s ensuing drive. Jack linebacker Charlie Hunt pounced on the loose ball to set the Sharks up at the Storm 16. On the very next play, starting quarterback R.J. Archer took a hard hit and left the game for one play and Aaron Garcia stepped on to the field wearing a Jacksonville uniform for the first time since 2011. Garcia needed just one snap to make an impact, throwing Mardy Gilyard open for a diving 24-yard touchdown catch that gave the Sharks that two-score lead.
Archer bounced back after missing that one snap, playing the rest of the game under center. Following the Storm’s first score of the game – a touchdown from Hippeard to Justin Hilton, Archer fired a five-yard scoring strike to London Crawford, giving the Sharks a 20-7 lead. But... [Read More]

Since the evolution of juju music in Nigeria in the 1930s, no artist has made a more lasting impact in the genre than King Sunny Ade. As a singer, composer and guitarist, he has succeeded over the years in taking this Nigerian social music type to international heights. Ade came on the scene in 1966, following his induction as a samba player in a small group led by showman and comedian Baba Sala, known in real life as Moses Olaiya. And with his own 10-piece band, the Green Spots, Ade made his first record in 1967, playing the guitar solos himself. He however, blazed into prominence a year after with a hit single in praise of Stationery Stores football club which earned him a Gold disc as a result of its massive sales. Since then Ade has been in the limelight.
The late 60s found Ade searching for a credible sound identity that tended to fuse the influence of Tunde Nightingale with the techniques of his mentor, Moses Olaiya, in ... [Read More]

Rock Band Modest Mouse To Perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre
St. Augustine, Fla. (May 26, 2015) – The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, in partnership with Jax Live Presents, proudly announce the return of indie rock band Modest Mouse to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Friday, July 17, 2015. Tickets for this concert event will go on sale to the general public this Friday, May 29 at 10 a.m.
Modest Mouse are one of the most surprising commercial success stories of the new millennium – while their music is by turns taut and elliptical, and the lyrics sometimes cryptic and introspective, the band broke through the mainstream audience with the platinum-selling Good News for People Who Love Bad News and they became genuine rock stars at a time when their musical peers remained cult figures.
Modest Mouse was formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington by singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy. In 1994, Modest Mouse recorded its first EP, Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect and also recorded what would have been its first album, Sad Sappy Sucker, but constant delays caused the album to be shelved and ultimately released in 2001. In 1996, the group officially released its debut album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, on the independent ... [Read More]
